The closure of the Exc\u00e9lsior landfill is the <strong>largest<\/strong> environmental remediation project <strong>in Peru<\/strong> and one of the most important in Latin America.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Exc\u00e9lsior Deposit received mining waste from the Ra\u00fal Rojas open pit in Cerro de Pasco from 1956 to 2000, accumulating approximately <strong>50 million tons of<\/strong> waste, whose filtrations contaminated the soil and air in an area of approximately <strong>69 hectares<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Currently, the project has reached <strong>91% completion <\/strong>. Most of the pending works correspond to the irrigation system, including distribution lines and irrigation equipment.
