Ibiza’s Road Network Gauging Plan

Ibiza's Road Network Gauging Plan

CPS has developed the Plan de Gestión de Aforos de la red viaria del Consell d’Eivissa, a traffic control and analysis system that allows to know the evolution, characterization and distribution of mobility on the roads of the island. The project includes the programming of 52 gauging stations strategically distributed along the 201 kilometers of road network managed by the Consell d’Eivissa, covering 98.2% of the total network.

The work is structured in four main axes: spatial and temporal programming of the gauging stations (9 permanent, 12 primary and 31 secondary), exploitation and analysis of the data collected, calculation of the capacity and determination of the service levels of each section, and preparation of the final document of the Gauging Plan with traffic maps and mobility statistics.

The sampling system allows, through long-term observations at strategic stations, to establish transformation factors that define the general traffic cycles and to extrapolate results to other related stations.

The information generated makes it possible to compare roads on an objective basis, to prioritize future investments according to real demand and social benefit, and to determine the physical characteristics that the different sections of the network should have in terms of the level of service required.

The project includes analysis of average daily intensities, monthly and hourly traffic variations, distribution according to days of the week, traffic during project hours, and comparative evolution with respect to previous years.
