Strengthening urban mobility in 29 Peruvian cities with PROMOVILIDAD

CPS Peru BranchSucursal Peru, in consortium, will carry out the consultancy service that will define a set of key indicators to characterize urban mobility in twenty-nine (29) Peruvian cities. This work will also include the design of a typology of strategic interventions that will strengthen the management of the National Program for Sustainable Urban Transportation (Promovilidad).
Promovilidad, a program under the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), promotes the development of sustainable urban transport systems by strengthening the technical and institutional capacities of local governments. This approach aims to optimize mobility in cities and address challenges such as vehicular congestion, long travel times and insufficient public transport infrastructure.
The indicators to be worked on include:
- Road infrastructure: Evaluation of the quality and capacity of urban networks.
- Modal distribution: Analysis of the percentage of people using public transport, private transport, bicycles or other means.
- Travel time: A measure of commuting efficiency.
- Mass public transportation: Identification of areas for improvement in coverage and quality of service.
The project also contemplates the collection of data from primary and secondary sources to prepare detailed diagnoses in selected cities, such as Ica, Tacna and Cajamarca. This information will be systematized in methodological tools designed to guide future sustainable mobility interventions. In addition, training will be provided to Promovilidad’s technical team to ensure the effective implementation of these tools and strengthen decisions related to urban transportation.
