Mercado Station, Line 2 Metrovalencia

Infrastructure of Line 2 of Metrovalencia, Mercado Station

CPS was in charge of the construction management of the infrastructure of Metrovalencia Line 2 – Mercado Station.

The work included the infrastructure corresponding to the Mercat station of Line 2 of the Metrovalencia network, at a depth of 30 m, and the 5-storey parking lot with 450 parking spaces located above it, in the Ciudad de Brujas square, at the head of Av. From Baron de Cárcer. The final excavation depth is the greatest reached in the city of Valencia and one of the greatest in Europe of those executed by the “cut & cover” method.

Elements of the station are:

  • Access vestibule, located in the first basement level, at the southern end of the Plaza de Brujas, where the access from the surface, the direct pedestrian connection to the basement of the Central Market and the parking lot converge.
  • Mezzanine, more than 21 m deep and differentiated into a public area as a second distribution hall and a private area where tunnel ventilation machinery, extraction, etc. are included.
  • Platform. It is the deepest floor and is divided into a public area and another for the operation of the tramway.

A modern urbanization of the surrounding area and Bruges Square has been designed to enhance the pedestrian character of the infrastructure and restrict traffic uses to public and residential use where possible.
