Cycle and pedestrian bridge between Almassora and Vila-real over the Mijares River
In CPS , we continue to make progress on drafting the construction plans for the future bike and pedestrian bridge over the Mijares River, a project promoted by the Valencian Regional Government that will strengthen the connection between the municipalities of Almassora and Vila-real.
The project is currently in the public engagement phase of the Landscape Integration Study. As part of this process, members of our team participated last week in public engagement workshops held at the town halls of Almassora and Vila-real, where the proposal was presented and feedback was gathered from municipal representatives, associations, and the public.
The project area features a strong functional relationship between the two urban centers, making it necessary to strengthen pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and adapt the space to more sustainable mobility models , in line with the planned developments for the future Bulevar de la Plana-Tram in Castelló.
The planned route, approximately two kilometers long, will connect the intersection of Francesc Tàrrega Avenue and Grècia Avenue in Vila-real with San Jaime Street in Almassora. At both ends, the project will connect with existing bike lanes, providing continuity to the cycling network in both municipalities and promoting safer and more sustainable mobility .
Since the two municipalities are separated by the Mijares River, the project calls for the construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the river that will ensure the continuity of the route. The structure will be located downstream from the Pont Nou (N-340a), maintaining a distance of ten meters from the bridge to ensure its proper functional and landscape integration, as well as to preserve the visual character of this historic structure.
The public participation process will remain open until September 15 through an online survey made available by the Valencian Regional Government and at city halls. The feedback received will be used to incorporate public opinion into the Landscape Integration Study.
