Improvement and Expansion of Drinking Water and Sanitation Services in the Navita de Betania Community

CPS Peru, as part of a consortium, is overseeing the project to improve and expand the drinking water and wastewater disposal services in the Betania Indigenous Community, in the Río Tambo District, Satipo Province, Junín Department.

The project is part of the initiatives promoted by the Government of Peru, through the National Rural Sanitation Program (PNSR) and the Comprehensive Rural Water and Sanitation Program (PIASAR), aimed at reducing gaps in access to basic drinking water and sanitation services in the country’s rural areas, and is funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The project is being carried out in the Betania Indigenous Community, which has a population of more than 750 residents living in 279 homes, and aims to improve and expand drinking water and sanitation services in response to identified limitations in water quality, household installation coverage, and the sanitary management of excreta. Through this project, we hope to help reduce waterborne diseases in the community.

Our responsibilities include monitoring, supervising, and conducting technical inspections of the construction work; providing ongoing support for field activities; verifying construction processes; and tracking the progress of the various components of the project.

Overseeing this project also presents a unique technical and logistical challenge due to the location and accessibility of the Betania Indigenous Community, which is primarily accessible by water via the Tambo River. In light of this, we maintain a permanent presence in the field, conducting inspections, verifications, approvals, and controls of the various construction processes—including oversight of the drinking water system—thereby contributing to the proper development of the planned infrastructure.
