Dismantling of Pedestrian Walkways in Avenida del Cid

Dismantling of Pedestrian Walkways in Avenida del Cid

CPS undertook the design and subsequent project management of the dismantling of pedestrian walkways, improvement of accessibility and traffic lights in Avenida del Cid in Valencia with the aim of installing five new crosswalks to replace the five walkways that used to cross the avenue.

The project sought to improve the accessibility of the avenue through the construction and improvement of crosswalks, replacement and use of pavements with appropriate textures and anti-slip materials, in accordance with the criteria indicated in the current standards for accessibility in the urban environment.

Four of the five dismantled footbridges had an almost identical configuration with the following characteristics: 52m. The structure consists of two 24.5 m long prefabricated beams with a span of 24.5 m and 0.95 m depth and a 3 m wide platform. The walkways were supported on the concrete piles. These walkways differ only in the layout of the ramps and stairs. The footbridge located on Marconi Street was the longest (72 m.); it had four footbridges, assuming that the two central spans had the same type of section as the other four footbridges.

For the dismantling of the walkways, it was necessary to modify the traffic lights at the intersections of the walkways, so a new traffic light system was planned for 10 traffic light crossings, including the installation of 33 new traffic lights and the relocation, installation and enlargement of 10 traffic light regulators, located at the bottom of the ramps, stairs and piles.

On the other hand, the project included landscaping actions to replace elements affected by the redevelopment of the surroundings, or those that may have been damaged during the demolition process.
