Repair and Automation of the Turia River Field Canal
CPS provided technical assistance to the management of the Campo del Turia Canal repair and automation works with the objective of guaranteeing the correct functioning of the canal, providing solutions to different structural problems such as: stability, filtrations, drainage, etc. that the canal presented.
Drainage works were carried out (guard ditches, underpasses, fords, overpasses, culverts, culvert repairs); siphon repairs; tunnel repairs (cleaning, reinforcement of the floor, vault lining, drains, nozzles); cleaning of the canal; repairs to the floor and caissons; waterproofing and joint treatments; covering of sections of the canal with slabs; and, finally, section enlargements.
In addition, a new 1,600.16 m tunnel was built to eliminate a section of the canal located on an unstable slope; a drain to bridge a 100 m difference in level between the canal and the delivery point, protecting the slope with a gabion wall; a new weir at the foot of the dam to allow the evacuation, if necessary, of a 72 m3/s flow.
The operation and control of the canal was also modernized by replacing the existing intake, automation and remote control systems, including the construction of a control center. Likewise, intakes were renewed, implementing level and constant gates and mask modules. The other key point of the project was to facilitate access to and maintenance of the canal by upgrading the various service roads. This was achieved through the cleaning and improvement of accesses, new roads and the execution of safety and signaling works.
